The three of us SATS’ ladies are very different in so many ways. However, there is one thing we are united on and that’s our belief that all women are beautiful and deserve to feel that way. Empowering women is at the root of our goal, which was why we jumped at the opportunity to partner with Tobin and Sarah, the husband and wife team behind phoTobin photography.
A boutique photography company based in Vancouver, B.C., phoTobin photography specializes in contemporary portraits and women’s glamour photography as well as boudoir sessions. And, they aren’t those cheesy 80’s glam shots with the over-teased hair and powder-blue eyeshadow. Their work enhances the natural beauty of their subjects in a way that leaves you feeling and looking your absolute best.
With the shared vision of helping ladies feel great about themselves, we recently had the opportunity to get glammed up and step in front of the camera.
When we arrived at their studio, located in a residential area of Vancouver, we were swept into the makeup and hair area where makeup artist Sarah works her magic. Assisting her in helping us primp to our finest, was Fraser Valley-based makeup artist Alejandra from Hair and Beauty BC.
Once we were glammed up it was time to get in front of the camera…
T’s Experience
Before
I was a little nervous with the whole thing, considering I hate having my picture taken. I had talked to Sarah a few times before the day of the photo shoot, which made me feel a little more comfortable about getting in front of a camera. Her inspiring personality and zest for life are truly what changed my mind. When the day arrived and we finally got to meet the dynamic duo, I knew it was going to be a great day. I can honestly say that I never felt uncomfortable about the man behind the camera, Tobin. A confident smile is truly the prettiest thing you can wear.
Kendall’s Experience
Before
Let me just start out by stating the obvious – You can see based on our ‘before’ and ‘after’ shots that Tobin and Sarah know what they’re doing. I have had the opportunity to have both glamour and boudoir photos taken in the past, but always with female photographers. When Sarah first reached out to us I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel working with a male photographer. But, I am happy to say it only took one hip pop and a faux hair flip from Tobin while helping me go through the poses to have me laughing and feeling completely at ease. The whole time we were there we were all having fun conversations while getting ready. By the end, it felt like we had known each other for much longer. I have to say, they’re a pretty great couple and a joy to work with – you can tell they love what they do.
Kristyl’s Experience
Before
I’ll admit I was pretty nervous the day of the big photoshoot. Aside from not having my own photo taken since highschool graduation, I was up til the wee hours of the night playing musical beds with my two toddlers. Again. As you can see in my ‘before’ shot, there was LOTS of work to be done. However, I decided to put my faith in the experienced hands of the talented Alejandra from Hair and Beauty BC and let her work her magic. When she twirled me around to see my new do and makeup, I was pretty impressed. To be honest, I barely recognized myself. Lately, I’ve been stuck in a mommy rut, spending most my days sporting yoga pants and a hoodie. Aside from a quick flick of the mascara wand, makeup is usually an afterthought. When it came time to pose for my photos, I found I wasn’t camera shy at all, thanks to Tobin and his wife/assitant Sarah.They both have a way to make you feel at ease. I was shocked by my ‘after’ photo – he is certainly the Picasso of portraits.
